Natural Detox

Diatomaceous Earth or DE is made of fossilized diatoms, remains of tiny, aquatic organisms. Their skeletons are made of a natural substance called silica. Over a long period of time, diatoms accumulated in the sediment of rivers, streams, lakes, and oceans. These diatom deposits are mined and ground into a fine, off-white powder known as diatomaceous earth. DE contains an assortment of trace minerals, but its main component is silicon dioxide, or silica, which is vital for good health and also plays a role in bone formation.

Due to its chemical makeup, diatomaceous earth is not degraded by microbes or by sunlight. Also, it does not emit vapors or dissolve well in water. There are three main types of DE: food grade, pest control grade, and pool grade.

Food grade DE meets safety standards outlined by the Food Chemicals Codex and is "generally recognized as safe" by the FDA for you and your pets to ingest and to use in your home.

Some people may not like the mildly chalky flavor and gritty texture that are typical of DE mixed with water. If that describes you, try adding DE to a drink with more flavor (milk, orange juice, coffee, smoothies) or to light foods like yogurt, oatmeal, or applesauce.

Dosage:  Take 1 tsp twice daily gradually increase dosage as desired. Do not exceed 2 tsp twice daily. Stay hydrated.

Benefits:

Hair

If you have thinning hair, you can begin to see new hair growth after a few weeks of taking DE, giving your hair a fuller, healthier look.

Skin

Collagen, another fundamental building block of healthy skin production, is helped by the presence of silica from diatomaceous earth. That extra silica can make your skin smoother and healthier.

Nails

The silica in diatomaceous earth is not only an essential component of hair, it is essential for nails, too. So if you have brittle nails, take some DE to see them get stronger in just a few weeks

Detox

Diatomaceous earth acts as a mild abrasive both topically and internally. Inside your body, it helps remove intestinal invaders and other harmful organisms from the digestive tract. As an internal cleanser, diatomaceous earth may aid cleansing by supporting regularity and assisting in the removal of toxic elements.
