Both genera are native to India. Cardamom use dates back to 4th century BC, when natives of India used it for medicinal purposes. It was also used by Romans as teeth cleaner and breath freshener.
Cardamom has a sweet taste with an enticing aroma. Cardamom's aroma is rugged, but gentle, fruity and biting. The taste is light and lemony. Delicious in cakes and pastries, and in Indian and Middle Eastern spice blends.
