Cinnamon a spice obtained from the inner bark of several tree species from the genus Cinnamomum. Cinnamon is used in both sweet and savory foods. Ceylon Ground Cinnamon has a more subtle flavor than the more common Cassia variety, due to its lower volatile oil content. Ceylon also has a far lower content of coumarin, a compound with anti-coagulant properties that can be a health risk if consumed in large amounts.
The term "cinnamon" also refers to its mid-brown colour. Many of cinnamon’s fantastic properties come from one substance, something called cinnamaldehyde, which is naturally present in cinnamon, is the source many of the antifungal and antibacterial properties that make cinnamon such a great addition to your diet. You can eat cinnamon powder “uncooked,” for instance, sprinkled on toast, or you can add it to foods like oatmeal while the cereal is cooking.
Non- Culinary usages.
Cough and cold: Soothe that scratchy throat by sipping on some cinnamon infused water.
