Jamaican Sorrel (Hibiscus Sabdariffa) is a genus of Flowering plant in the mallow family. It is quite large, containing several hundred species that are native to warm-temperate, subtropical and tropical regions throughout the world. The flowers are also known simply as hibiscus, roselle or less widely known as rose mallow. Sorrel has been used traditionally as a food, in herbal drinks, in hot and cold beverages, as a flavouring agent in the food industry and as an herbal medicine. Jamaican sorrel extracts showed antibacterial, anti-oxidant and diuretic effect properties.
