Green Hills Foods Texturized vegetable protein also known as Veggie Chunks is a defatted soy flour product cooked under pressure then dried. Defatted soy flour is a by-product of extracting soybean oil. It is often used as a meat substitute by non- meat lovers or vegetarians. It is quick to cook, with a protein content far greater than that which comes from meat. Veggie chunks can take on many forms or shapes allowing it to take on the texture of whatever ground meat it is substituting.
Texturized vegetable protein is a complete protein, meaning it contains all of the amino acids your body requires. It is believed that using veggie chunks instead of red meat as a protein source in your diet may help lower your risk of diabetes, heart disease and cancer. The final product comes in various shapes (chunks, flakes, mince, grains, curls and strips) and sizes.
Using Veggie Chunks, one can make vegetarian or vegan versions of traditionally meat-based dishes, such as stews, chilli, burgers and meat balls. Textured vegetable protein can be found in most natural food stores and supermarkets. This product is made from organic soy flour.
